Delineating the major depositional environments in northern Port Phillip Bay, Victoria
Journal of Sedimentary Petrology (September 1967) 37 (3): 931-951

Abstract

Three major depositional environments (deltaic, mid-bay and hay-marginal) in northern Port Phillip Bay have been defined and delineated by a typological approach. Sediments having the greatest number of common features (structure, mineralogy, geochemistry) were mapped as an areal unit, that is, as a depositional environment. The adoption of such an approach is thought to aid in the investigation of older sediments.
