Abstract

Studies of furnace-bottom deposits produced in a pilot-scale research boiler by the burning of 15 beneficiated western Canadian coals show that the higher the tenor in volatile elements, the higher also is the basicity determined in analyses of coal-ash and furnace-bottom deposits, as well as the degree of ash-slagging in the boiler. The microstructure observed in a furnace-bottom deposit is a function of the basicity of this deposit. (Authors' abstract)
