Abstract
The role of the mineralogist in the development of a copper-mining venture is described. It is shown how geological and metallurgical problems can be solved by mineralogical techniques. At each stage of development, namely exploration, laboratory and pilot plant test work and, finally, full-scale plant operation, determination of mineralogical parameters is important. The mineralogical aspects of exploration, mining, milling, smelting and refining, are emphasized.
