The results of exploration for unconformity-type uranium deposits in east-central Minnesota

Abstract

The geology of east-central Minnesota is grossly similar to parts of Canada and Australia in which major unconformity-type U deposits occur. Exploration from 1976 to 1982 of the basal Middle Proterozoic succession in the area was based on an empirical geological model of unconformity-type deposits. Failure to find an economic deposit is evaluated in terms of differences between the actual and model geologies and the difficulties posed by an extensive and thick cover of glacial detritus. Further exploration of some targets in the area is recommended.
