Abstract

Data from deep wells and surface exposures reveal the presence of a buried, northeast-trending, northwest-side-down, Precambrian structure passing near Fort Norman, District of Mackenzie. This structure demarcates the southeast limit of the Middle or Upper Proterozoic 'Mackenzie Mountains supergroup' east of Mackenzie River. In a broader view, the Fort Norman structure appears to belong to a family of northeast-trending, Precambrian, mainly northwest-side-down faults. These faults collectively limit preservation of 'Mackenzie Mountains supergroup' and equivalents to north of 60 degrees . One member of this family, the Leith Ridge fault, may have controlled a major offset in the latest Proterozoic continental margin.
