Petrology, chemistry, and isotopic composition of submarine volcanoes in the southern Mariana Arc
Geological Society of America Bulletin (October 1983) 94 (10): 1159-1172

Abstract

Four submarine volcanoes; dredge samples. Major- and trace-elements (REE); mineral compositions. Nd and Sr isotopic data ( (super 143) Nd/ (super 144) Nd = 0.5130-0.5131; (super 87) Sr/ (super 86) Sr = 0.7032-0.7035) indicate a mantle source for the Mariana Arc lavas similar in isotopic characteristics to sources for ocean islands. Spatial distribution in magmatic characteristics coincides with a structural break in the arc near 16 degrees N.--Modified journal abstract.
