Telluride minerals from the Ashley Deposit, Bannockburn Township, Ontario
Telluride minerals from the Ashley Deposit, Bannockburn Township, Ontario
The Canadian Mineralogist (February 1983) 21, Part 1: 137-143
The Ashley gold mine was found to contain the minerals tellurobismuthite (Bi 52.3, Te 47.5, = 99.8 corresponding with Bi (sub 1.99) Te (sub 3.00) ), volynskite (Ag 18.0, Bi 36.6, Te 45.2, = 99.8 corresponding with Ag (sub 1.0) Bi (sub 1.0) Te (sub 2.06) ), rucklidgeite (Bi 39.9, Pb 13.3, Te 45.5, = 98.7 corresponding with Pb (sub 0.72) Bi (sub 2.15) Te (sub 4.00) ), hessite, calaverite (Au 44.4, Ag 0.6, Te 55.4, = 100.4 corresponding with Au (sub 1.04) Ag (sub 0.03) Te (sub 2.00) ), tellurite and kuranakhite, all previously unreported in this deposit. This is the first Canadian occurrence of volynskite and kuranakhite. An unidentified gold-bearing mineral (Ag 0.8, Au 48.5, Te 40.7, = 90.0) rims calaverite; three grains of this phase in gangue gave Au 83.5, 87.7, 90.7, Fe 4.7, 5.1, 0.4. This occurrence suggests that telluride minerals may occur elsewhere in gold deposits in the Canadian Shield.
