Abstract

Preisingerite is triclinic, P1, a 9.993, b 7.404, c 6.937 A, alpha 87.82, beta 115.01, gamma 111.07 degrees , Z = 2. The translucent white crystals are a product of weathering; tabular parallel (010) with a rhombohedral shape. Microprobe analysis gave Bi 68%, As 15%, P 0.3%, and Pb < 0.5%; D (sub calc.) 7.24 g/cm (super 3) . It is biaxial, alpha 2.130, beta 2.16, gamma 2.195 (lambda = 589 nm). The crystal structure is illustrated and discussed.
