Abstract
The lattice parameters and optic axial angles of alkali feldspars were determined along eight N-S profiles. The 500 degrees C isotherm separates a northern area of exclusively low microclines (2V (sub alpha ) = or > 76 degrees and 0.95 = or < t (sub 1) O-t (sub 1) m = or < 1.0) from a southern area of 'high microclines' (2V (sub alpha ) = or < 76 degrees and 0.0 = or < t (sub 1) O-t (sub 1) m = or < 0.55). The isotherm represents the diffusive phase transformation of microcline/sanidine during prograde Alpine metamorphism.
