The second paragraph of the introduction to Mr. Wantland's paper, if amplified by a second one, would give the key to a real understanding of the problems of magnetic interpretation. This second statement should be that any interpretation of magnetic data should fit the observed distribution of magnetic intensity quantitatively as well as qualitatively. It is not until we ask quantitative questions that much progress can be made.
