Uncertainty is an important component of all geophysical studies, which is ever present but often ignored. There is uncertainty at every stage in geophysical applications: from errors and biases in the measurements, through the models and methods that connect the physics to the data, to the final decision-making based on estimated parameters. In some cases the meaning of uncertainty is itself uncertain.
