GEOPHYSICS’ reputation as the world's preeminent journal of applied geophysics is supported strongly by citation statistics.

Analysis of 10 peer-reviewed journals devoted to applied geophysics shows that GEOPHYSICS published more than half of the 50 most-cited papers in the field from 2005 to the present. Two major citation-monitoring services — Thomson Reuters’ ISI Web of Knowledge and Elsevier's Scopus — provide similar evidence of the SEG journal's dominance (Table 1).
