Abstract

The induced polarization (IP) effect is one of the most intriguing phenomena being studied in electromagnetic geophysics. It was emphasized in the original paper (Zhdanov, 2008) that a comprehensive model of the IP effect should include the electrochemical and electromagnetic aspects of the problem. Acknowledging the complexity of the IP phenomenon, I have considered also the importance of constructing a rigorous physical-mathematical model of heterogeneous, multiphase conductive media based on the effective-medium approach, which takes into account both the electromagnetic induction and induced polarization effects.
