Abstract

Reverse-time depth migration includes an imaging condition and a time extrapolation procedure where the wave field recorded on a surface is continued into a model earth. In this paper, both the pressure and the particle velocity are used in a reverse-time depth-migration technique. Using these two continued wave fields, one constructs a map of the earth's impedance as a function of depth. This is also an exact inversion procedure where multiples and source wavelets are deconvolved.
