I propose a method for deriving static corrections to a subsurface datum where a constant ratio can be assumed between the velocity of the weathered layer and the velocity of the subweathered layer. This ratio determines the proportionality constant for the relationship between the static correction to the datum and a refracted arrival time at a certain distance to its elevation above the datum. The advantage of the method lies in its rapid computation of the static corrections where the assumed velocity distribution applies.
