A claim that reciprocity fails to hold in some particular situation is usually treated with the same skepticism that would greet a claim of failure of energy conservation. Hence my response to claims that in real field situations reciprocity had been observed to fail was to look for improper application of the theorem. To convince myself that I understood how to apply the theorem, I considered the simplest case, i.e., the scalar wave equation, and attempted to construct a counter example. Finding the flaw in the counter example would serve to renew my belief that I understood how to apply reciprocity correctly.
