Abstract
Horizontally layered medium with waves at normal incidence. Efficient algorithm using O[N (log 2 N) 2 ] computations for N layers. The improvement over the O(N 2 ) computations required by recursive methods comes from using the fast Fourier transform to perform the convolutions.--Modified journal abstract.
