Abstract

Scaled model studies often are used to determine the structure of secondary magnetic fields when the numerical approach is unreasonably difficult. For most purposes, it is sufficient to model the geometric configurations or relative components of the magnetic field and, neglecting displacement currents, the general modeling relation sigma mu fL 2 = constant is valid.However, in some applications such as transient electromagnetic (TEM) modeling, it is necessary to determine the power level of the full-scale system. An expression relating the voltage levels of the model and the full-scale situation is derived asEquationwhere the subscript m represents the model system. This expression must be used in order to compensate for changes in the modeling parameters.
