This recent article continues the approach take by the authors in an earlier article (Roy and Dhax, 1970) on induction systems. As in that earlier article, the authors confine their attention to homogeneous media. Limiting the analysis to homogeneous media yields results of very questionable value. The approach taken in the paper is to determining a “polarization” of the conducting medium resulting from source currents and to then calculate the sonde response by summing up the effects of these distributed sources. The weighting factor ascribed to each cylindrical shell is then identified with a “geometrical factor,” presumably giving the relative weight of the particular shell.
