Abstract

A method of phase measurement of electromagnetic field components produced by dipoles on a stratified conducting half-space is described. A symmetric process with a high frequency transmitter and two high frequency receivers is used in order to get a phase reference. This method has been applied to the measurement of the phase of the component E (sub theta ) radiated by a horizontal electrical dipole on a stratified conducting half-space. The expression for the phase of E (sub theta ) for a N-layered medium is calculated numerically. Computations for a three-layered model show good agreement with the measured results.
