Stephenson and Tooley point out that the crucial point in interpreting the experimental results of Viksne and others [Geoscience Abstracts 3-1570] lies in the realization that porosity (o), cement content (C), and manufacturing pressure (P) are not all independent variables. To determine fully the role of manufacturing pressure, it will be necessary to devise new experiments in which o, C, and P are permitted to vary independently. Viksne and others reply that the correct relationship between the variables has yet to be established, but that a deeper insight into the role of the variables has been gained, which was the purpose of their paper. The experiments have been continued, and additional results are now in preparation for publication.
