Abstract

Two types of explosive-to-rock coupling were investigated - geometrical and impedance. Strain amplitudes generated by an explosion in a borehole are shown to vary with charge and hole dimensions. Strain amplitudes and strain energy in the rock also are shown to be dependent on the properties of the explosive and the medium surrounding the shothole. Deviations from acoustic theory predictions are noted.
