Abstract

The other day one of our boys, a sophomore whom I didn't know, came in to talk about his choice of a major. He said that he had been considering geophysics but had heard that jobs were growing scarce. I said, “They are, but not for a good man!” and went on, “if you like math and physics and the outdoors, you will have no trouble in getting and holding a satisfying job. It may or may not be in petroleum exploration, but there are many other areas of the earth sciences where young men of imagination are also needed.”
