Abstract

The importance of mining in Canada can be recognized from some rather impressive statistics. Almost $2 billion are spent annually by the industry in Canada, of which $600 million are on salaries. The mining industry promotes new rail routes (Chibougamau, Thompson, Mattagami, etc.) and provides 40% of all rail traffic. Mining products constitute 33% of Canada's exports.
