To the present time, the great bulk of seismographic exploration has, perforce, been devoted to obtaining subsurface structural information. Stratigraphic information has not normally been forthcoming except insofar as stratigraphy could be deduced from structure. What little direct stratigraphic information was available came from velocity data resulting from refraction surveys or delta-tee analyses of reflection results. Both these types of velocity-derived stratigraphic information suffer from lack of resolving power.
