The first exploration in the Ruston field area that indicated the presence of a structural feature was a reconnaissance surface survey by the Arkansas-Louisiana Gas Company in 1931. This paper, with maps, describes the surface work and the subsequent reflection seismograph surveys conducted by Arkansas-Louisiana Gas Company in the area prior to the discovery of gas in the Cotton Valley formation. A comparison of the results of the surface and seismic work is made with the structure as revealed by present subsurface control.
