Abstract

The gravity meter in use today measures the differences in the acceleration of gravity between stations. When three or more gravity stations are interconnected by measured differences to form closed gravity station networks, values for the accelerations of gravity at all stations must be derived in such a manner that around all closed circuits the algebraic sum of the adjusted gravity differences is zero. Since the errors involved are assumed to be random, a solution can be obtained by the method of "least squares." However, for large networks, the usual least squares solution is so time-consuming that it is frequently omitted in cases where its application would be desirable. It is the purpose of this paper to describe the practical application of a more speedy method.
