COVER: Partially melted pelitic (garnet-sillimanite) gneisses with alternating garnet-rich, garnet-poor, and mafic granulite layers at Rundvågshetta, East Antarctica. The garnet occasionally contains sapphirine + quartz assemblage as evidence of ultrahigh-temperature metamorphism. These rocks formed during the assembly of Gondwana, which Wang et al. (The role of megacontinents in the supercontinent cycle, p. 402–406) identify as a “megacontinent” that is an important geodynamic precursor to supercontinent amalgamation.
