Abstract

Comparison of the upper limit of Stylatractus universus with the δO18 record in two deep-sea cores from the mid- and low-latitude Atlantic reveals that this species becomes extinct within the transition zone between oxygen-isotope stages 12 and 11. This extends the global comparison of this biostratigraphic datum to the Atlantic, confirming previous studies that showed that the extinction of this species occurred on a world-wide basis approximately 425,000 yr ago.
