230Th ages of fossil corals from upper Pleistocene limestones on the eastern Yucatan Peninsula and Cozumel Island are about 122,000 yr. Similar ages for corals at about the same elevations at other areas in the Caribbean region indicate that eastern Yucatan has been tectonically stable since late Pleistocene time. Stratigraphic relationships in Yucatan suggest that maximum sea level during the late Pleistocene period was 5 to 6 m above present sea level.
