On the basis of structural analysis and petrological study in the Shandong Peninsula (eastern China), we argued that, conversely to a well-accepted idea, east of the Tan-Lu fault, the boundary between the North China and South China blocks cannot lie along the Wulian-Yantai fault in the middle part of the Shandong Peninsula (Faure et al., 2001). As indicated by the question mark in the title of our paper, this is still a working hypothesis, and we thank Mingguo Zhai for giving us the chance to specify the facts that led us to this new proposal.
