I welcome the comment on Pan (2001) by Marsh and Higgins, as they are the father and frontrunner, respectively, of crystal size distribution analysis in the geosciences. Such a comment was anticipated and is instrumental in reaching final conclusions about crystal size distribution analysis.

Marsh and Higgins did not elucidate adequately why Pan's equation 1 “introduces confusion.” This equation strictly follows the definition of population density (n), which is the number of crystals per unit crystal size per unit volume of system.
