Zhang reiterates the widely cited argument that the Qiangtang metamorphic belt represents a suture because it separates upper Paleozoic strata that contain only warm-water faunas in the north from those that include cold-water deposits and faunas in the south (Li et al., 1995; Li and Zheng, 1993).
