Nelson et al. (1999) presented a descriptive evaluation of tectonic and sediment supply controls on turbidite systems in Lake Baikal, Russia. The approach was similar to existing descriptions of sedimentary patterns in the East African rift lakes (as referenced), and resembled the authors' previously published work on Lake Baikal (Nelson et al., 1995). The key point of the discussion in the paper by Nelson et al. (1999) is that tectonically influenced half-graben morphology controls both the amount and the type of sediment supply to Lake Baikal, and consequently the type of late Quaternary turbidite systems.
