Falling within the site survey area for an offshore nuclear power facility, Beach Haven Ridge has been the most thoroughly investigated shoreface-connected ridge on the Atlantic shelf. Its stratigraphy clearly indicates that it is of Holocene age and was initiated at the foot of the shoreface, after passage of the retreating barrier, as the leading edge of the shelf surficial sand sheet.
