Abstract

Real estate brokers and builders do not often use geologic information despite the new land use laws that require a knowledge of the physical environment. These two groups were evaluated to determine their technical knowledge, the level of knowledge they desire, and the specific information they need from the geologist. They are not proficient in engineering or geology, nor do they wish to be. The brokers and builders are aware of and interested in the geologist's contribution, but they indicated that the contribution must be both informative and intelligible. The most requested contribution was interpretive information specifying the suitability of land for various uses. The geologic profession has a ready market for a fast, accurate, understandable, and competitively priced land use analysis tool.
