On reexamination, the material used for describing the type species, Amplexograptus perexcavatus, has been found to contain two distinct forms, neither having a concavoconvex rhabdosome cross-section. Both are described, one as A. fallax n.sp. The genus is redescribed and compared with Climacograptus, and examples of borderline cases are cited.
