Within the main Kilchrist vent in southeastern Skye, west coast of Scotland, three acid breccias have been found emplaced in the basaltic agglomerate. The breccias are considered to be pyroclastic. Their occurrence and make-up are described. One, the Cnoc nam Fitheach mass, is thought not to have reached the surface but to have been intruded into the agglomerate which completely encloses it. Another shows evidence of explosive activity and is defined as an explosion breccia.
