Goniatites of Namurian age (here used as uppermost lower Carboniferous) are reported in the Russian literature from many areas. This material is reviewed and evaluated, and it is concluded that the principal stages of the Namurian, as worked out in western Europe, are recognized in almost every area discussed. Recent Russian systematic work is summarized.
