Abstract
Conodonts were found in 15 of the 60 samples of Devonian and Carboniferous limestones examined from western and southwestern England. The faunas exhibit striking similarities with those of America and Germany. The presence of apparently Ordovician forms is probably due to the fact that they were incorporated in lower Paleozoic detritus which contributed to Devonian and Carboniferous sediments. This alternative explanation is preferable to extending the range of Ordovician species.
