Abstract
The stage name Breconian was first used during the 18th International Geological Congress in London, but has never been explicitly defined. It signifies that part of the Old Red Sandstone between the Dittonian and Farlovian stages, and is particularly well developed in Breconshire, southern Wales, the type area. It comprises the Senni beds and the Brownstones, together about 2,100 feet thick.
