Abstract
The earliest identified goniatites from Devonian rocks of north Cornwall, southwestern England, were referred to the upper Devonian back in the early part of the century. Advances in knowledge of the goniatites since then now make possible more precise identification of the specimens from Cornwall and indicate that a large area previously mapped as upper Devonian is really middle Devonian.
