The periods of accelerated and retarded bottom movements in the North Sea basin are compared with the sedimentation rate in various time intervals and the result is confirmed by consideration of the paleogeographic development. The principal phases in the structural history of the region are synchronous with tectonic epochs of world-wide importance.
