Abstract

Although G. A. J. Cole in 1893 described Hemitrypa hibernica M'Coy as a valid species and showed that the genus was distinct from Fenestella, his description is not entirely clear in modern terms. The type material is redescribed and the relation between the main fenestelloid structure and the hexagon-mesh super-structure is discussed. The type material is from a Carboniferous limestone locality in Cork, Ireland.
