Abstract

Chemical and modal analyses are given for a diopside-orthoclase-hornblende rock recently found in Lewisian paragneiss on Chiapaval ridge, South Harris island, off the west coast of Scotland. Optical data are also given. The paragneiss was probably an argillaceous quartzite intercalated with ferruginous and dolomitic quartzite lenses, which has been regionally metamorphosed to its present sillimanite-kyanite grade.
