Abstract

A preliminary note on the first results of an investigation of coccoliths from Cretaceous chalk localities by means of carbon coatings and examination under the electron microscope. The technique of preparation is to be reported in a more detailed account, together with a bibliography. One new genus (Biscutum) and six new species are erected and described. They are B. testudinarium, B. castrorum, Tremalithus burwellensis, T. barnesae, Discolithus theta, and Cyclolithus armilla.
