A specimen from the upper Llandovery shales (Silurian) near Kirkcubbin, northern Ireland, shows a fragment of graptolite stipe, of which each theca is associated with a sharp ridge in the adjacent sediment. It is suggested that the ridges are caused by grooving of the sediment by the thecae during movement caused by a flow of overlying mud.
