Abstract

Results of field work in the mid-Strathspey region, northeast Scotland, have been used to illustrate the statement by Wegmann that "increasing mobility of rocks during deformation results in an increasing spread of the sheaf of axial structural elements". Migmatization in the region is syntectonic, and its products are quartzose pegmatites and minor sheets of granitic rock. It has been found possible to correlate the degree of migmatization with increase in the intensity of folding, the plasticity of the fold style, and the degree of structural inhomogeneity.
