Abstract

Reexamination of an outcrop near Forres, in western Moray, northeast Scotland, fails to indicate any evidence for an unconformity between middle and upper Old Red sandstone. At a second outcrop, where upper Old Red sandstone is faulted against Moine gneiss, there is no evidence of Old Red sandstone south of the fault, as claimed by Horne, and thus no evidence for a southward transgression of upper Old Red sandstone onto Moine gneiss.
