Abstract

The only outcrops of the southern edge and metamorphic envelope of the Galway granite occur on the islands of Gorumna, Lettermullen, and Crappagh in Galway bay on the west coast of Ireland. The aureole is composed of pillow lavas, quartzites, graywackes, and amphibolites, the whole known as the South Connemara series, whose age is tentatively considered Ordovician.
